Major business expansion is characterizing the local economy. The 3M manufacturing company underwent a major expansion and added 50 new jobs. Brenton Manufacturing added another 70 jobs. Alexandria is a locus for companies that make the machines that perform packaging. The population is growing and retail is growing right with it. A new Super Walmart has just opened. New restaurants, including major national franchises are popping up. The fact that Alexandria is the seat of Douglas County helps out. Alexandria benefits from the state, local, and federal infrastructure that goes with the territory of being a county seat.
In spite of all of this growth, Alexandria is still the sort of place where a local real estate company can get walk-in business. According to Shawn, sales are strong. Properties that are selling include farms, lakefront and commercial parcels. The area boasts some of the most sought-after lakefront property in the state. The sector of the market that is especially hot is the 250K price range. Currently, IBR carrying about one hundred or so listings here. Market times are up slightly, but properties are definitely selling.
