If Imran Khan were interviewing for a job in the corporate world, he might be deemed “overqualified.”
Indeed, his qualifications are impressive. Education includes a Master of Arts degree in Health and Human Services Administration from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 2000. He is even in the process of attaining his Doctorate of Education (Leadership) from St. Mary’s University, which he is on track to earn by 2010.
Imran has also had small-business experience running a laundromat business while he was in grad school. He served as a professional tennis coach at Cretin-Durham Hall, and is an adjunct instructor at the Minnesota School of Business.
So why isn’t Imran administering a hospital or large nursing home?
As a matter of fact, he does have this sort of experience under his belt. Why did he leave the field to become a South Minneapolis REALTOR?
Imran discovered that the mega-health care systems put their own corporate policies and bottom lines ahead of the best interests of patients. To those of us who have had experience with HMO’s, outrageous medical bills, or institutionalized family members, this comes as no surprise. But what Imran saw in the health care industry did not square with his principles. He saw self promotion valued more than honesty. He saw the best efforts of sincere individuals become thwarted by self-serving corporate policies and procedures.
So why did Imran choose to become a REALTOR? Imran is a self starter, and he quickly discovered that hard work and the cultivation of honest business relationships does indeed pay off in the real estate business. He likes being responsible for his own work and his own successes. This arrangement just motivates him to work harder. He owes his success to a principle called “Servant Leadership.” In a nutshell, “Servant Leadership” means putting your client’s interests above your own. IBR Realty’s principles of fairness, generosity, and integrity were a perfect fit for Imran’s business model.
Imran’s background gave him invaluable training in research design. Imran continually analyzes the market to determine trends and the best value for his clients. His latest efforts are to prepare REO investment multi-parcel “packages,” complete with spreadsheet analysis and data to help his client investors make the best possible decisions.
